It's snowing again today

and this was the playlist I listened to on the
way to work, titled 'good-ass mix' on my ipod:

Deez Nuts - Dr. Dre
99 Red Balloons - Nena
Caring is Creepy - the Shins
Baddest of the Bad - the Rev
Tear Stained Eye - Son Volt
Big Poppa - Notorious B.I.G.
Ripple - Grateful Dead/covered by Janes Addiction
Ms. Fat Booty - Mos Def
Train From Kansas City - Neko Case
Float On - Modest Mouse
Spiderbite Song - Flaming Lips
Wave of Mutilation - Pixies
Waiting for My Ruca - Sublime
Twist the Knife - Neko Case
Buick City Complex - Old 97's
Eazy Duz It - Easy E

Tonight I'm going to see The Reverend Horton Heat
with Amanda and Kelli-- if she doesn't get
snowed in, she lives in Placitas. Amanda lives
in New York with her husband and kids, Ian + Anam,
and is in town for a few days. I KNOW we'll
have a great time tonight!

It's almost over...

I like the holidays, but it's always nice
when they're over. I got some cool stuff though.

Craig is so thoughtful, he knows me so well.
Chuck Palahniuk (paula-nick) is one of my absolute
FAVORITE authors-- if not completely favorite.
Anyhoo, he got me a copy of his documentary,'Postcards
From the Future'--signed by Chuck himself! Chuck is so
funny, witty, charming and smart, I was thrilled to watch
it with Baby. I also got 'Fugitives and Refugees', which
I already started and 'Invisible Monsters' on the way.

The Long Day is Over...

"Feeling tired
By the fire
The long day is over.
The wind is gone
Asleep at dawn
The embers burn on...
With no reprise
The sun will rise
The long day is over"

Cookies...

last night I made sugar cookies-yum- and Craig
wanted a cookie in the shape of a Lambretta. He
saw one on one of his Scooter Boards and I said I'd
give it a try. There were 2, but one of em' got jacked!
This is the lonely survivor:

Ham, Ham, Ham

You guessed it--I'm cooking up a ham today!
I'm never cooked one so I'm awfully excited!
I will post a song later, but I'm still thinking
of something to fit the 'pork' theme... t.b.c.

--ok, the ham is in the oven, Baby did the scoring,
and now we're going to play with Stink Pug.

here's a yummy ham:

"What's he building in there?
What the hell is he building
In there?
He has subscriptions to those
Magazines... He never
Waves when he goes by
He's hiding something from
The rest of us... He's all
To himself... I think I know
Why... He took down the
Tire swing from the Peppertree
He has no children of his
Own you see... He has no dog
And he has no friends and
His lawn is dying... and
What about all those packages
He sends. What's he building in there?
With that hook light
On the stairs. What's he building
In there... I'll tell you one thing
He's not building a playhouse for
The children what's he building
In there?

Now what's that sound from under the door?
He's pounding nails into a
Hardwood floor... and I
Swear to god I heard someone
Moaning low... and I keep
Seeing the blue light of a
T.V. show...
He has a router
And a table saw... and you
Won't believe what Mr. Sticha saw
There's poison underneath the sink
Of course... But there's also
Enough formaldehyde to choke
A horse... What's he building
In there. What the hell is he
Building in there? I heard he
Has an ex-wife in some place
Called Mayors Income, Tennessee
And he used to have a
consulting business in Indonesia...
but what is he building in there?
What the hell is building in there?

He has no friends
But he gets a lot of mail
I'll bet he spent a little
Time in jail...
I heard he was up on the
Roof last night
Signaling with a flashlight
And what's that tune he's
Always whistling...
What's he building in there?
What's he building in there?

We have a right to know..."

Big Brown Eyes

Bombay is just so incredibly cute! He loves
to lay around, getting sun, and he does this
pretty much everyday! This was the perfect
opportunity to capture his cuteness!

"Big brown eyes, and a gust of wind,
And the cherry burns the corner of the page that says "The end
Is coming soon," but not soon enough.
Restring all your guitars. Pack up all your stuff.

'Cause if Robert's dad is right,
We might not make it through the night,
And I'd hate to go alone.
Please pick up the phone.

Well a box of red, and a pill or three,
And I'm calling time and temperature just for some company.
I wish you were here. I wish I was too.
I'll drink myself to sleeplessness, I always do.

You don't want me anymore,
Since fame and fortune broke down our door.
You don't give me no respect.
What did I expect?

If that phone don't ring one more time,
I'm gonna lose what's left of my mind.
You made a big impression for a girl of your size,
Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes."

la la love you don't mean maybe
all i'm saying pretty baby
first base-
second base-
third base-
home run
yeah!
i love you
i do
i love you
all i'm saying pretty baby
la la love you, don't mean maybe
all i'm saying pretty baby..."

Snowy days...

It snowed the last few days--and it actually
stuck! For Albuqueruque, that's a big deal! It
was nice to have a snow day though! Craig and
Angus built a snowman while Bombs and I stayed
in and kept warm. We also took our hoilday family
photo by the snowman-- super cute!

After Angus was picked up, Craig and I got to
hang out and play together... it was so nice to
cuddle and laugh and keep eachother warm! We
also cooked a delicious meal together-- pistachio
crusted pork, wild mushroom rice, broccoli and
sage + olive oil butternut sqaush... a half a pan
of brownies for dessert. I had a FABULOUS day!

I also got a new cd, Elvis Costello-Almost Blue, an
album full of country covers...all great songs. Todays
song is from the album.

"Oh you recall that little girl mama?
I believe her name was Betty Clark...
Oh don't tell me that she's dead, mama
'Cause I just saw her in the park.
We were sitting on a bench, mama
Thinking of a game to play...
Seems I was holding a wrench, mama
Then my mind just walked away...

You think I'm psycho don't you mama?
I didn't mean to break your cup.
You think I'm psycho don't you mama?
Mama why don't you get up?"

TIGHTLY

I got to hang out with some friends
on Saturday-- Erica and Michelle.
It was fun to catch up!
We also had lunch in Santa Fe
@ Cafe Tecolate on Sunday with the
family... that was nice, but I forgot
to take pics of the delicious food.
Oh well, next time.

Here's some beautiful Neko...

"When I'm walkin' under stars
I covet all the waning hours
All the lonely houses stand like monuments
to thieves...

When I'm walkin' in the dark
I'm free to covet all I want
You've made it all so very dangerous--
I can't stay away.

When I'm walkin' under trees
I'm free to covet all I please
New moons in the alley
and it's madness calls to me

Tonight, tonight, tonight...

If I meet you in the night
You're free to covet all you like
Don't you try and stop me
I cling tightly to this life."

Christmas Pug Love

Here's myself and Bombay by the Christmas tree...

Girl Inform Me...

I'm just about done done with my Newsboy Cap,
just finishing up the brim. I'll post a pic
to show it's cuteness!

Also, our Christmas tree went up last night.
It's so pretty-- red, silver and white. Craig
took some pics of me with Bombs, so those will
go up sometime today as well.

I love these guys...

"Girl inform me all my senses warn me
Your clever eyes could easily disguise
Some backwards purpose
It's enough to make me nervous.
Do you harbor sighs, or spit in my eye

But your lips when we speak
Are the valleys and peaks of a mountain range on fire.
So let me walk these coals till you believe
I can cut the mustard well enough
Cause you know as soon as breathe we scrutinize

Unknown quotients, you must be using potions
How else could you tie my head to the sky
This new convection has left me wondering why
I can't concern myself with ordinary tripe"

My new knitting project 'Mystifies Me'

just kidding. I did start a new project though.
It's a super cute Newsboy Cap-- recommended by
my pal Lori. I may post some pics of the hat once
it's done-- we'll see how it turns out.

--ok, Newsboy is done, it came out ok-there are some
random lumps, but I'll probably
try again. Here's a pic of how it turned out, and some
other cute hats I've made:

As for todays music, this is a song Craig and I used
to listen to when we first got together... swoooon.
I LOVE him.

"Stay a while and work it out with me, we got time and we can
talk, too. Give me a sign, I'll take your word, I'll learn
anything you want me to. That is all I'm lookin to ya for,
all I'm askin' that you simply do. Take it, leave it, make things
matter, let in all my breath away. Take it all apart and put it
back, I am always left here lookin' at you.

You look so fine, true, you look so fine,I would not lie to you...

Let me see you, let me know your dreams, won't you please
give out a sign things you say make me look through you, no
one mystifies me like you do. This is why I always look at you,
and I hold you to it every day.

You look so fine, true, no one mystifies me like you do
You look so fine, true, no one mystifies me like you do"

Plastic Flowers on the Highway

I love the the Truckers...

"My community service had me working for the county
Cutting grass on the off-ramps and medians and such.
Every quarter mile or so, stands a brand new reminder
Another traffic death in town. Something new to cut around.
Crashed out on the highway. Plastic cross and a plastic bouquet.
Paramedics in the by-stander's gaze.

Plastic flowers on the highway. Bits of glass for the machine to sweep away.
Had to pass it on my way to where I'z going.
For the next few minutes I drove a little slower."

Los Angeles

This song kicks ass... I've seen Exene perform
with the Original Sinners and Dave Alvin with the
Guilty Men--in Manhattan for free!-, but never any
shows with all the members... maybe someday. My pal
and her husband saw them a few years ago @ the
Hootenanny Festival...luckies.

"she gets confused
flying over the dateline her hands turn red
cause the days change at night
change in an instant
the days change at night
change in an instant

she had to leave
los angeles
she found it hard to say goodbye to her own best friend
she bought a clock on hollywood blvd the day she left
it felt sad, it felt sad
it felt saaaaaaad
she had to get out, get out"

Not Ready To Make Nice...

I like the Dixie Chicks, no matter what anyone says.
I've been digging this song lately, especially since it's
about the backlash of Natalie Maines saying she "is
ashamed our president is from Texas." Who can blame
her-- he is pretty damn embarrassing. This tune has
been overplayed some might say, but it's got some pretty
powerful lyrics.

"I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over...

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should..."

Cat & Dogwa

This is the cat that invades our home at night.
She comes in through Bombay's doggie door and
he does absolutely nothing about it. Most of the
time she's harmless, but sometimes she'll raise hell
and try and get at the trash.

Here are some "action" shots of Bombay enjoying
his bone. He has them all over the damn house...

Empty Baseball Park...

"Stumble past the record store
End up at the movies.
Try and think of something else.
Nothings comin to me.

You do this to me.
You do this and I oblige.
And I fight it."

Spiderbite

I love the Lips... Wayne's voice is absolutely
beautiful! The feelings and story behind this song
are incredibly touching and sad. But, it's still
a fabulous song!

"When you got that spider bite on your hand
I thought we would have to break up the band
To lose your arm would surely upset your brain
The poison then could reach your heart from a vein

I was glad that it didn’t destroy you
How sad that would be
Cause if it destroyed you
It would destroy me..."

The Ocean Breathes Salty...

"Your body may be gone, I'm gonna carry you in.
In my head, in my heart, in my soul.
And maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both live again.
Well I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Don't think so.

Well that is that and this is this.
You tell me what you want and I'll tell you what you get.
You get away from me. You get away from me.
Collected my belongings and I left the jail.
Well thanks for the time, I needed to think a spell.
I had to think awhile. I had to think awhile.

The ocean breathes salty, won't you carry it in?
In your head, in your mouth, in your soul.
And maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both grow old.
Well I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I hope so."

Duran's 'Speed Law'.

"I melt the ice grills into rainwater puddles,
make the proud-hearted leave on the humble
black steel in the hour. Assemble my skill form my power.
My poems crush bones into powder, you mumble like a
coward --I'm Mos Def, you need to speak louder.
SUPER HEROES!
Get your power, your masks and capes snatched-
Brooklyn take what you can't take back, I know a lot of
cats hate that- All I can say black...
there's a city full of walls you can post complaints at.
All the doubters and believers adjust your receivers,
"I feel it," you can taste it through the speakers
The three six oh-riginal sketch lyrics so visual
They rent my rhyme books at your nearest home video"
-Mos Def

Today's music choice is an awesome writer, rapper
+ actor. 'Speed Law' is one of my favorite Mos Def
songs, and I particularly enjoy it driving to work in
the mornings. Appropriately enough, we spotted this
"ride" on our way back from a delicious breakfast at
Duran's Central Pharmacy.

Today, I enjoyed Huevos Rancheros with red chile, beans,
boiled (?) and mashed potatoes + homemade tortillas.
Craig had chicken enchiladas with red and green and
beans with a ton of cheese. It was fabulous as always!
Duran's packs and ships their products as well... excellent
Christmas gift ideas!

Maybe Sparrow

I've decided I'm going to post a piece of
a favorite song everyday. I adore sooooo
many musicians, so the selection will be
very random.

"Oh my sparrow it's too late
Your body limp beneath my feet
Your dusty eyes cold as clay
You didn't hear my warning..."
-Neko Case
