La Bamba

is one of the best movies...ever.

Craig and I have always been fans, even
before we got together and we've been known
to "run our (la bamba) lines" for anyone who
will listen. We like to share the roles, so
sometimes I'm Bob or Ritchie, sometimes Craig
is Connie or Connie jr. ("is this where we're
gonna live? it's like a castle!"). Either way,
we've seen this movie about 1,000 times or so
and we BOTH shed tears at the end...everytime.
Watch as soon as possible if you haven't already!
You'll be glad you did!

"No, not my Ritchie!"

"It could've been worse, you could've been
Ricky Zuela!"

"RRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIITTTTTTTCCCCCCCHHHHHHIIIIIEEEEE!"

I Love Date Night

Craig is my favorite guy.
Last night we had 'date night' and it was so fun!

First, we had a delicious meal at El Patio...
guacamole & salsa w/ chips to start, stuffed
sopa w/ beef and beans (a la ali) for me and
what else? Carne adovada for sweets of course.

After we stuffed ourselves, we took the short
walk back home and took the pugwa out for his
walk. Pug LOVES his walks.

Then, Craig and I went on a scooter ride from
Nob Hill to Downtown and it was sooo nice being
out with my baby on a cool summer night. I'm a
bit of a wuss - I don't like going super fast -
so I have little baby freak outs when I think
he's going too fast. I trust Craig with my life,
and I know he'd never hurt us, I just can't help
it... I'm getting better about it, though.

The rest of the evening consisted of internets,
South Park re-runs ("love is a battlefield!") and
lounging around with the pug.

I love Date Night.

FLAHSBACK!!!

Craig and I heard an interview with Steven Tyler and
Joe Perry on talk radio this morning in bed and it made
me remember this video. I loved all the videos for this
album in high school. ahhh, good times.

Cryin':

Breakin' Up

"it's not as if new york city
burnt down to the ground
once you drove away
it's not as if the sun won't shine
when clouds up above
wash the blues away

are we breaking up?
are we breaking up?
is there trouble between you and i?
did my heart break enough?
did it break enough this time?

here's to all the pretty words
we will never speak
here's to all the pretty girls
you're gonna meet

am i breaking up?
am i breaking up?
is there trouble on the line?
did your heart break enough?
did it break enough this time?

ooh it feels good to be free
ooh it feels good to be free
ooh it feels good to be free

betrayal is a thorny crown
you wear it well
just like a king
revenge is the saddest thing
honey, i'm afraid to say
you deserve everything

am i breaking up?
are we breaking up?
is there trouble between the lines?
did your heart break enough?
did it break enough this time?

ooh it feels good to be free
ooh it feels good to be free
ooh it feels good to be free"

-Rilo Kiley

new favorite album...
it'll make you want to put
on some roller skates and
dance along to the funky lyrics!

Had a Blast

at the Launchpad last night with the girls.

Here, we have Ashley, Erin and Amanda looking
at the camera. Melissa and Lauren happened to
look away for this pic. Cara was out for a bit, but
called it quits a little earlier.

Eddie Spaghetti says "Rock On!".

Put Your Records On

Three little birds, sat on my window.
And they told me I don't need to worry.
Summer came like cinnamon
So sweet,
Little girls double-dutch on the concrete.

Maybe sometimes, we've got it wrong, but it's alright
The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same
Oh, don't you hesitate.

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.

Blue as the sky, sunburnt and lonely,
Sipping tea in the bar by the roadside,
(just relax, just relax)
Don't you let those other boys fool you,
Got to love that afro hair do.

Maybe sometimes, we feel afraid, but it's alright
The more you stay the same, the more they seem to change.
Don't you think it's strange?

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.

'Twas more than I could take, pity for pity's sake
Some nights kept me awake, I thought that I was stronger
When you gonna realise, that you don't even have to try any longer?
Do what you want to.

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

Oh, you're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow

NM State Fair

time of year is rolling around and I can
hardly wait! Every year, Craig, Angus and I
spend an afternoon enjoying all the fair
has to offer. Angus will usually ride some
sketchy rides, and we all like to play games
with the nice carnies. The animal farm and
the 4-H exhibits are fun too. But, our absolute
fave thing to do at the fair is eat! There are
a thousand different things you can have and
they are all delicious! These are some faves:

Roasted corn with cayenne, lemon salt and butter.
Pork on a Stick... very tasty and porky.
Sausages and Peppers... not as good as Craig makes.
Fry bread with lots of powdered sugar.
Green chile tortilla burgers.
Relleno dogs... yes that's a weiner in there.
Cotton candy... everyones favorite.
Aguas Frescas - a favorite of 'dos twins.

There is also some major people watching...
and cow milking.
and "69 sex all day" stickers.
and kids embarrassed 'cause their moms
dropped them off and now they need to
be picked up w/o their potential hook
up seeing.

good times.

I love the fair.

In Your Eyes

"Love, I get so lost, sometimes...
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart.
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car,
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are.

All my instincts, they return,
and the grand facade, so soon will burn.
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside.

In your eyes,
the light the heat.
In your eyes,
I am complete.
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches.
In your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches.
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat..
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes.

Love, I don't like to see so much pain...
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

And all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn.
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside..."

What's For Dinner?

Tonight at our house I'm cooking:

Salad with tomatoes, mushrooms, cucumber
and homemade ranch, chicken fried steak fIngers,
twice breaded for extra crispiness, mashed potatoes
with lots of butter, fresh green beans with bacon +
onions and cream gravy with -whatelse?- green chile.

This is a favorite around here... Craig sometimes calls
it "straight up whiteboy day!".

What are you having?

Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?

I love her version of this song.

This Weekend

is off to a great start. Last night, after the delicious
green chile cheeseburgers we had for dinner, the
3 of us went downtown to watch a classic film under
the stars and it was fun! Of course, after about 2 hours
our butts were asleep, but all in all it was a good time.
We're hoping next years films will be just as good!

This morning we started our day off with some serious
pug-cuddling. Ever since Bombs became lesser of a man,
he is so sleepy and lazy and he hates getting out of bed.
So, it's our duty to stay in bed with him til he's ready to
start his day... which is right around the time he smells
the bacon cooking.

For breakfast I had a garlic bagel that Sweets picked up
for us, along with cream cheese, more green chile and
some delicious garden tomatoes. And coffee, lots of coffee.

We also hit an estate sale and a few yard sales, Angus
found some books, that's about all. Later, his "homeboy"
(angus thinks that's a funny word) is coming over for a
playdate and then all of us are riding bikes and skateboards
to the University Neighborhood Block party. There we'll
have some cherry lemonade, pizza and get our parking
permits re-issued, while watching and judging all the
folks in our 'hood.

Stay tuned for the rest of the weekend happenings to come...

Factory Girl

So, the factory girl she listens
For the sound of her daddys engine
Till the work bell sounds and she leaves town

Oh, the summers here are hot
All she seems to do is work and sleep
I wish that she was still with you

Now you dont know where she is
Lying in her mothers bed
Or who shes sleeping with.

Oh, the kids will laugh at her
Cause she seems so sweet and pure
Oh, I took this shift because of her.

Oh, Ive never said a word
I once smiled and looked at her
Till the shift-boss said get back to work.

Now you dont know where she is
Or whos bed shes sleepin in
Or what man shes sleeping with.

Happy Monday

to all yous.

The Scooter Rally was fun.

Craig won an awesome Chrome Messenger Bag which
is SO him. He also won a cool undie set for yours
truly from a shop in Santa Fe called Unity. There
were some other swag gifts as there were many
sponsors who donated items, but these were the
best. There were also some cute Scooter Boys,
but Craig was BY FAR the hottest one there.

"Eaaaasy, Barren..."

is what I'm sometimes told by Sweets when I need to
calm my ass down. Today it was more like ,"Eaaasy, Cujo",
since I went off sort of like a rabid dog due to all the
scooters and whatnot. Anyhow, after a little food and a
tantrum, I feel better about the scooter rally tomorrow.
I should've known that last minute "stuff" would have to
be taken care of before the trip, I just wanted my sweet
baby all to myself for a bit. I want Craig to have a good
time, so I am putting on my game face and ready for this
thing! Bombs is ready too.

Let's Eat, Abq!

I'm so excited!

I was invited by Eat Albuquerque! to submit
restaurant reviews for eateries here in the city!
As someone who loves to eat and loves food, I am
thrilled! But, as someone who's never officially
reviewed food, on paper or online, I'm a bit nervous.
But, I think I have an upper hand in the sense that I
was a server and bartender at a number of places for
almost 10 years, so I have an idea of what people want
in a dining experience, casual or not.

I'm super grateful for the opportunity and I know I can
do a great job!

Stay tuned for my first review later this week - with
a ton of photos of course!

In One Month...

I will be in Oahu and Kona, Hawaii...
For work.
With my co-workers.

looking forward to it, actually.

Let There Be Rock

Drive-By Truckers:
Southern Rock Opera, act 2.

Dropped acid, Blue Oyster Cult concert, fourteen years old,
And I thought them lasers were a spider chasing me.
On my way home, got pulled over in Rogersville Alabama, with a half-ounce of weed and a case of Sterling Big Mouth.
My buddy Gene was driving, he just barely turned sixteen.
And I'd like to say, "I'm sorry", but we lived to tell about it
And we lived to do a whole lot more crazy, stupid, shit.

And I never saw Lynyrd Skynyrd but I sure saw Molly Hatchet
With 38 Special and the Johnny Van Zant Band.

One night when I was seventeen, I drank a fifth of vodka, on an empty stomach, then drove over to a friend's house. And I backed my car between his parent's Cadillac's without a scratch.
Then crawled to the back door and slithered threw the key hole, and sneaked up the stares
And puked in the toilet.
I passed out and nearly drowned but his sister, DD, pulled me out.

And I never saw Lynyrd Skynyrd but I sure saw Molly Hatchet
And the band that I was in played "The Boy's are Back in Town".

Skynyrd was set to play Huntsville, Alabama, in the spring of 77, I had a ticket but it got cancelled.
So, the show, it was rescheduled for the "Street Survivors Tour".
And the rest, as they say, is history.

So I never saw Lynyrd Skynyrd but I sure saw Ozzy Osbourne with Randy Rhoads in 82
Right before that plane crash.
And I never saw Lynyrd Skynyrd but I sure saw AC/DC
With Bon Scott singing, "Let There Be Rock Tour".

With Bon Scott singing, LET THERE BE ROCK!

~this was on the playlist today... so. damn. good.

Bridge to Terabithia

Craig, Angus and I picked up this movie last night after
our bike ride and I was extremely happy with it. I had no
idea that it would be such a tearjerker - I thought it was
purely a kiddie movie... not at all, surprisingly.

Oh, and the little sister, Mae Belle, I LOVED her! She
reminded me of my niece, Julianna. We call her 'Jules'.

Heaven is a Place on Earth...

"When the night falls down
I wait for you
And you come around
And the world's alive
With the sound of kids
On the street outside

When you walk into the room
You pull me close and we start to move
And we're spinning with the stars above
And you lift me up in a wave of love...

Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth ?
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
They say in heaven love comes first
We'll make heaven a place on earth
Ooh heaven is a place on earth

When I feel alone
I reach for you
And you bring me home
When I'm lost at sea
I hear your voice
And it carries me

In this world we're just beginning
To understand the miracle of living
Baby I was afraid before
But I'm not afraid anymore

Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth ?
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
They say in heaven love comes first
We'll make heaven a place on earth
Ooh heaven is a place on earth..."

-Belinda Carlisle

I heard this song today and it reminded me
of the dance I did in the 5th grade talent
show with Charmaine... we literally wore
matching acid wash denim skirts, pink pocket
tees, pink socks, white keds and pink Madonna
like lacey gloves. I really wish I had a photo!

Rags To Riches

does ANYONE remember this short lived t.v. series?

When it debuted, I was a mere youngen and I recall
wanting to be in this... so.badly. Sure, it was about
some orphans who desperatley wanted to be adopted,
but HELLO! they sang renditions of some 60's classics!
Who wouldn't want to be part of such nostalgia?

them, under the stars, on the city's dime?

Well, thanks to the city of Albuquerque, you
can now enjoy a handful of films at Civic Plaza

Sea of Love

"Do you remember when we met?
That's the day I knew you were my pet...
I want to tell you how much I love you.

Come with me, my love...
To the sea, the sea of love.
I want to tell you how much I love you.

Come with me, to the sea...

Do you remember when we met?
That's the day I knew you were my pet...
I want to tell you how much I love you."

-the Honeydrippers

I've been known to belt out this tune at
karaoke...good times.

Thanks

to Duke City Fix for adding my blog to their site!
Check them out to see what's happening in the big ol' city!

a rant.

today... well, it kinda sucked.

1. I ran some errands during work, and had to skip lunch
because of it.

2. Missed the opportunity to pick something up for dinner
because I was told we'd get something when I got home.

3. Came home and realized that if I wanted to eat dinner
with my boyfriend that I don't see all day, that it'd be
as soon as he and his pal finished working on his bike.
I was starving. (see 1.)

4. Pissed off, I cleaned the mess in the kitchen.

5. Ate dinner alone because Craig worked on his bike
with his friend.

Now, I'm all for being supportive of my loved one, but
this was just plain annoying. ugh.

FLASHBACK!!!

"When explanations make no sense
When every answers wrong
You're fighting with lost confidence
All expectations come

The time has come to make or break
Move on don't hesitate
Breakout!

Don't stop to ask
Now you've found a break to make at last
You've got to find a way
Say what you want to say
Breakout!

When situations never change
Tomorrow looks unsure
Don't leave your destiny to chance
What are you waiting for
The time has come to make your break
Breakout!

Don't stop to ask
Now you've found a break to make at last
You've got to find a way
Say what you want to say
Breakout!

Don't stop to ask
Now you've found a break to make at last
You've got to find a way
Say what you want to say
Breakout!

Some people stop at nothing
If youre searching for something
Lay down the law
Shout out for more
Breakout and shout day in day out
Breakout!"

-Swing Out Sister

I heard this song today and it brought back memories
of me and my sis, years ago, dancing in our room and
gettin' down to this song! We loved the video, too!

Yay, 80's!

So Tough

Sagwah had to have an operation today...
but he is fine and surprisingly spry for
just having his manlihood snipped away.
He is such a tough little guy!
