Open Letter to Gerard Butler

Dear Gerard Butler,

I cannot help but think and hope that you are reading
my blog. For the past 2 days, my stats show someone here
in Albuquerque visiting my lovely little site from a location
that you could POSSIBLY be staying at while here in 'the city'.
Not only has this reader been visiting, but specifically
clicking on to my posts... about you and current filming in
Albuqerque. Yes, I may seem a little stalker-ish, I know,
but I really do love you- eh, your films. And if it IS
you visiting, please leave me a comment to say 'hi' or
something... maybe we can get together for a laugh?

Forever yours,
Andrea

How Christmas-y...

We (me) decided that it was time to give some
New Mexican christmas treats a shot this weekend
and it was mighty fun...and hard as hell. I really
had no idea what it took to throw together some
tamales and some biscochitos on a late
Saturday afternoon. But, it was something I've
been wanting to try for a while, so we did. And...
everything is so good! Sounds a little cocky, I know,
but both Craig and I were very pleased with our
hard work. We also had a super delish onion soup
that Craig made all on his own... between the tamales,
onion soup and cookies, our kitchen smelled like a
little piece of heaven. But, I do have to say, no wonder
little old abuelitas only make tamales and biscochitos
just once a year... I am still a little sore from mixing
and rolling dough. And I've never cooked with so much
lard in my life. **flips imaginary tortillas and wipes forehead simultaneously**

Biscochitos...yum:

Onion-y and cheesy soup:

yes... that's a pig foot in Craig's broth.

and some tamales:

You Took My Joy, I Want It Back

one of my faves, Lucinda Williams, will be on
Austin City Limits this weekend! I hope I can
stay awake long enough to catch her awesomeness!

I hope she plays some old favorites!

"I don't want you anymore,
cause you took my joy.
I don't want you anymore,
you took my joy.

You took my joy,
I want it back.
You took my joy,
I want it back.

I'm gonna go to West Memphis and look for my joy,
go to West Memphis and look for my joy.
Maybe in West Memphis I'll find my joy
Maybe in West Memphis I'll find my joy.

I'm gonna go to Slidell and look for my joy,
go to Slidell and look for my joy.
Maybe in Slidell I'll find my joy.
maybe in Slidell I'll find my joy."

Jukebox

I want this... it'll be out soon.
I love Cat Power... Chan's voice is
extremely soulful and blues-y as well
as super funky. She's so cool.

Cinnamon Rolls

Craig and I made these on Friday night
and let me tell you... so. flippin'. delicious.
We made them as a birthday gift and there were
more than enough to share with our nice neighbors,
Char Char and BryBry, and still have some for
ourselves. It was really nice to spend time with
my Sweets, doing something we both like doing...
melting and eating butter.

Don't Let Me Explode

"he said what about los angeles. she said we never really
made it that far west. we scored big in denver and we
thought it might be best... to go hang around in the upper
midwest. he said what about new orleans. she said i don't
think you understand what that means. all those hangers on.
the girls lifting up their shirts when the cameras come on.
we were tryin' stay away from those kind of scenes. we
didn't go to dallas... 'cause jackie onassis said that
it ain't safe for catholics yet. think about what they
pulled on kennedy. and then think about his security.
then think about what they might try to pull on you and me.

saint barbara i'm calling your name. don't let me blow up.
we'll hook it all up. i guess there's fields of speed where
there's fields of grain. saint barbara don't let me explode.
i can feel the whole scene starting to corrode when we're
fooling around on the frontage roads.

he asked what happened to charlemagne. she just smiled all
polite-like and said something vague. she said charlemagne
got caught up in some complicated things. she wiped at her
nose and she winked."

Good Day...

it has been so far. My Sweet Baby was a bit
under the weather yesterday and he's feeling
better today so YAY. I got to stay in bed for
a while with our very own monster and then
I listened to some good music on my way to work.

oh, and tonight is America's Next Top Model. yay.

"I say to myself
Self, why are you awake again? It's one a.m.
Standing with the fridge wide open, staring
Such a sight, florescent light
The stars are bright
Might make a wish, if I believed in that shit but
As it is, I might watch TV
Cause it's nice to see people more messed up than me
I say to myself, as I smile at the wall, just let myself fall

It's gonna be all right, no matter what they say
It's gonna be a good day, just wait and see
It's gonna be alright, cause I'm alright with me
It's gonna be, it's gonna be, it's gotta be

I shiver, shut the door
Can't think standing here no more
I'm alone, my mine's racing, heart breaking
Can you be everything I need you to be?
Can you protect me like a daughter?
Can you love me like a father?
Can you drink me like water?
Say I'm like the desert, Just Way Hotter.

The point of it all
Is that if I should fall
Still you're name I'll call

It's gonna be all right, no matter what they say
It's gonna be a good day, just wait and see
It's gonna be OK, cause I'm OK with me
It's gonna be, it's gonna be

As long as we laugh out loud
Laugh like we're mad
Cause this crazy, mixed up beauty is all that we have
Because what's love but an itch we can't scratch, a joke we can't catch
God, but still we laugh

Get back in bed, turn off the TV
You say "I'll be alright baby, just wait and see."

Let Them Guitars Blast for Ronnie and Neil

I listened to this on my way to work this morning...
It comes from one of my absolute FAAAAVORITE albums,

Southern Rock Opera

To get the whole effect of this song, play it loud.
OH. SO. LOUD.

Church blew up in Birmingham
Four little black girls killed for no goddamn good reason
All this hate and violence can't come to no good end
A stain on the good name.
A whole lot of good people dragged threw the blood and glass
Blood stains on their good names and all of us take the blame

Meanwhile in North Alabama, Wilson Pickett comes to town
To record that sweet soul music, to get that Muscle Shoals sound

Meanwhile in North Alabama, Aretha Franklin comes to town
To record that sweet soul music, to get that Muscle Shoals sound

And out in California, a rock star from Canada writes a couple of great songs about the
Bad shit that went down
"Southern Man" and "Alabama" certainly told some truth
But there were a lot of good folks down here and Neil Young wasn't around

Meanwhile in North Alabama, Lynyrd Skynyrd came to town
To record with Jimmy Johnson at Muscle Shoals Sound
And they met some real good people, not racist pieces of shit
And they wrote a song about it and that song became a hit

Ronnie and Neil Ronnie and Neil
Rock stars today ain't half as real
Speaking there minds on how they feel
Let them guitars blast for Ronnie and Neil

Now Ronnie and Neil became good friends their feud was just in song
Skynyrd was a bunch of Neil Young fans and Neil he loved that song
So He wrote "Powderfinger" for Skynyrd to record
But Ronnie ended up singing "Sweet Home Alabama" to the lord

And Neil helped carry Ronnie in his casket to the ground
And to my way of thinking, us southern men need both of them around

Ronnie and Neil Ronnie and Neil
Rock stars today ain't half as real
Speaking their minds on how they feel
Let them guitars blast for Ronnie and Neil!

Casino Royale

was the movie of choice over at our house last night.
Angus and I chose it while we ran out to pick up some
dinner and while Craig was at UNM listening to some
philosopher guy speak. I have to say, the movie was
alright. It could've been Daniel Craig.

Come to mama...
