L-O-L-A, Lola

a friend and I used to LOVE this song in highschool:

I met her in a club down in old Soho where they
drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry
cola C-O-L-A cola
she walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said
Lola L-O-L-A Lola Lo lo lo lo Lo - la

Well I'm not the world's most physical guy
But when she sqeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman but talked like a man
Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola

Well, we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candle light
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
and said "dear boy won't you come home with me?"
Well, I'm not the world's most passionate guy,
but when I looked in her eyes, well I almost fell for my
Lola Lo lo lo lo Lo - la Lo lo lo lo Lo - la
Lola Lo lo lo lo Lo - la Lo lo lo lo Lo - la

I pushed her away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me

Well that's the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Girl will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola
La-la-la-la Lola

Well I left home just a week before
And I'd never ever kissed a woman before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said "Dear boy, I'm gonna make you a man"

Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad that I'm a man
And so is Lola...

It Was Fun and Yummy...

now Turkey Day 2007 is over! I have to say,
we had a great day in the Blanragg Household!

Craig and I were able to lie in bed and giggle for
a bit before we got down to business... Turkey
Business, you sickos! We had our coffee and our
toast then we started planning our day. I was to
do the turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn,
cranberrry sauce and the rolls. Craig was in charge
of the dressing ( frickin' delicious.. Seattle Twin gave
some helpful pointers!), chimayo red w/ beef (for the
mashers... I'm a beaner and I need my chile and Sweets
is all too kind to hook me up!), green chile sauce (for
the dressing- oh, yeah!), and a large quantity of gravy
that rocked my world! Everything turned out to our
liking and the Pug even got some food. Of course, after
cooking all day and stuffing my face, a nap was much
needed on my part. Craig and Angus were super nice
and cleaned up the kitchen after dinner!

Here are some shots from our day:

(so. much. gravy!)

Brine Time 2007

Right now, as I type, our 18lb turkey is sitting in
our fridge in a loverly brine solution that consists
of: sage, rosemary, 1 bay leaf, kosher salt + pepper,
and iced water. I know, I know, 18lbs. seems like a
lot of turkey for just the 3 of us, but what can I
say? We like to get our eat on! Craig is at home, making
cornbread for the dressing/stuffing and he's making
mama some wheat bread, too. I CANNOT wait to get
home so I can have some bread w/ butter and watch one
of my faves, America's Next Top Model, while
thinking of turkey the entire time. And all those
sides... who can forget about the sides?

Surprise, Surprise...

i found this on Mint Julep's blog and thought
it'd be fun to post mine, too... what's your
blog's reading level?

Turkey Day 2007

are you getting ready?

I am! And I'm SUPER excited
as this will mark the 3rd (!) year
in a row that I will be cooking for
our little familia. And, wouldn't you
know it, we love to stuff our faces -in general,
and Thursday will be no different!

and then there was Pugwah...

Some More Good Things

around here this weekend:

I Found My Thrill...

also known as the day we made blueberry muffins.

angus and i used a recipe out of james beard's
'american cookery' and they came out delicious...
although i do have to admit, i added baking soda
instead of powder, so i was a little nervous. i added
half of the baking powder it called for and a bit
more sugar to balance it out, but luckily they were
yummy despite my mistake.

The Fabulous Moolah, R.I.P.

well known lady wrestler and partial
inspiration behind the documentary
Lipstick and Dynamite:
The First Ladies of Wrestling

one of my favorites,sadly passed
away last week. She was one tough lady.

Check out the documentary if you can -
you'll hear a Neko song in the background...
her aunt was also a wrestler!

Stephenville, Texas

I went to see Jewel last night (2nd row!)and
she was just gorgeous! She played acoustic
and I teared up several times because
her lyrics are so touching and real.
Anyhoo, it was a great show and she
even yodeled for her encore! She had
a super cute outfit on too... similar to
this one, but in black.

Housewives told to recapture their youth
By wearing floral print and suede
Fixing their hairdos with PC, chemical-free hairspray
Martha Stewart taught them to make on TV
I was raised a farmgirl
I'm too far from home, all alone on the road
Trying to figure out who I am now the the stardust has turned to sand
And the sand has turned to stone on the starmaking machine

I'm 31 years old
That ain't the end but it sure ain't where I began

And my daddy, he wrote songs and he broke colts
And he went back to school to get a degree
Now he teaches music to kids, he taught music to me
And this Alaskan girl was living in Stephenville, Texas
Yes, you guessed it, I moved here because I fell in love with a man
And I moved his ex-old lady's things out of the closet
The same closet I had to move my things back in
It didn't make me feel that great, as if to demonstrate
Everything's temporary if you give it enough time
But hey, I'm just a kid, I've got nothing to lose
I'm a singer of songs, I'm a player for crowds
Hey Mom, look, I'm an entertainer
I'm a modern day troubadour trying to find justice with six strings
Trying to make the world make sense out of me
Trying to be loved completely, trying to love honestly
Trying to find a decent high noon cup of tea
In another shitty hotel
I'm trying to listen to the leaves speak
Trying to steal secrets from fishes in the creek
Trying to figure out who I am
A pretty mediocre cook, an even worse mathematician, maybe a mother one day
What will it be?

And I'm 31 years old
That ain't the end but it sure ain't where I began

I'm trying to figure out who I am
But there's no hand to hold, no Doctor Martin Luther King
There's just syncophants
And the mindlessness on TV
We all read magazines for the latest ways to behave
So why not follow me, the blond bombshell deity?
I'll sell you neat ideas without big words
And a little bit of cleavage to help wash it all down
Hey, everybody thought Godard was a clown
And that ain't gonna be me

And I'm 31 years old
That ain't the end but it sure ain't where I began
And I'm 31 years old
That ain't the end but it sure ain't where I began
Guess that just means I'm in Texas

For dinner this evening,

I'm roasting up a chicken with the herbs we got
at the Grecian Festival here in 'Burque, garlic
mashed potatoes with homemade cream gravy,
and these green beans w/ 'maters
that are supposed to be a Thanksgiving side,
but I want them tonight...now.

Angus and I planned on making blueberry
muffins from a recipe that Alison shared,
but our local ghetto Smith's didn't have blueberries,
so we'll do those next weekend. Instead, we're
making Craig a "Welcome Home" (from a scooter
rally in AZ.) cake with chocolate frosting for dessert.
yum.

The Moneymaker

my new favorite song:

As R. Kelly Would Say:

"it's the freakin' weekend, i'm about to have me some fun.
can i get a 'toot toot'? can i get a 'beep beep'?"
then he'd probably do something unmentionable.

anyhoo, i'm happy it's the weekend, excited to chill.

here's a cool shot i took the other night on the way home.

Happy Friday, Kids!

The Good Stuff...

last night for dinner I made pasta with a shallot,
roasted red pepper and cream sauce, topped with
basil... it was yum.

have mentioned that before.
